My Collected Stories Ideas

A Couple of Ideas I’ve Had

[March 31, 2020: Look for updated  information herein.]

I got the idea a while ago to put the stories I wrote and published here and on my blog, Barbarian Writer into a collection to publish on Amazon.

Most of these were for a challenge called #BlogBattle which, for the most part, can be found by running a search on either web destination (here or on my blog) for the hashtagged word. (I guess ‘hashtagged’ is a real word; I didn’t get the little red squiggly line under it.) These total 13 chapters, plus I’m going to include a few others that are also on this website and the first few chapters of my Sci-Fi WIP “Challenge of the Velah” to add to the length.

For the collection of those stories, which are all in the Flash Fiction area, I thought of the title “Web of Shorts.” Yeah, maybe not the best title. We’ll call it a tentative one, how’s that?

Next, I have put together the short stories I’ve had published in various anthologies into another collection I’ve titled “Collected Bits.”* For this one, I’ve even made a cover photo using a web program by DIY Book Covers (click the link to see the interface, or the page to make them). I found a couple of royalty-free images and combined them, then added my words for the title. This is my result:

My attempt at making a cover for a collection

I don’t think it’s too bad for an initial attempt. Especially for a cover design virgin. (Can I say ‘virgin’ here? I guess so, I just did.)

There are eight shorts (a couple of them are actually poetry), which have been published in as many anthologies- compiled by Hellbound Books (who have published my only novel to date, “Hell’s Beginning“), J. Ellington Ashton Press, Night Sky Book Services, and Mark Nye. Also, I’ve included some of the Flash pieces and the first three chapters of my published novel “Hell’s Beginning” for the readers to enjoy.

[Edit 3/31/20- I didn’t include the preview of “Hell’s Beginning.” Instead, I inserted the first parts of my Sci-Fi WIP “Challenge of The Velah.”]

When these collections are finally done, I hope to get them onto Amazon. The issue with this is that I’m a little intimidated by trying to do this myself. We’ll call it a fear of sorts. I want to get them out there, but I am afraid of possible hidden costs. Everything seems to come down to money, it seems. I want to get more stuff published so I can make some, but I won’t be able to if it takes money to do so. At the same time, I want to publish each short story as it’s own $0.99 selection in case anyone doesn’t want to get them all in one purchase. Of course, getting the collection would be less expensive but to each their own, right? I wouldn’t do the flash pieces individually because I think they’re too short by themselves to upload singularly.

*Update 3-31-20 I have submitted this and gotten a contract with J. Ellington Ashton Press; so it’s in the pipeline, as it were. *

I would ask for some comments on these ideas but, due to overwhelming SPAM, I’ve had to disable the comment sections on both my website and blog. You can, however, go to my Facebook page, Twitter, Goodreads, BookBub, or even LinkedIn to let me know what you think.

I would appreciate it.

Until next time,

I am a fiction writer;

A creator of larger-than-life heroes of ages gone by;
Great wizards tainted, and those who resist them;

War between interstellar travelers, both on this planet and far away;
Alien races intent on the annihilation of any being not their own,
and weaker ones in need of a savior- as well as the One who becomes their savior.

Clashes with bad people and dangerous places, where only one can survive.

When you get to my writing, sit back, hold on, and enjoy the ride!
